Every country has its own traditional style of preparing coffee. So do people from Cuba too. They like it sweet and combined with milk. Cortadito Coffee gains its popularity in the U.S. lately.

This Cuban-style coffee is sweet and delicious. It is more like a dessert drink.

What is a Cortadito Coffee?

Cortadito means short-cut in Spanish. They call it that way because milk balances the power of a pre-sweetened espresso shot.

Exactly the same amount of coffee and milk needs to be in your Cortadito Cofee cup.

In Spain and Portugal, you can get Cortado. We can describe it as an older brother of Cortadito coffee. Made with equal amounts of double espresso shot and milk.

How to Make Cortadito Coffee?

First, steam your milk to be ready for pouring it into your coffee. If you’re at home try using Milk Frother for a nice and smooth texture.

Second, after your steamed milk is ready it’s time for the most essential part of this delicious drink. Mix the 2 tablespoons of brown sugar (if possible) with your espresso shot.

Cubans use the term “espuma” for steamed and foamed milk. After adding it to the espresso brew it creates a light brown colored drink.

Cortadito coffee is a strong, sweet, and delicious kind of Cuban daily routine.

Ingredients

Espresso

2 tablespoons of sugar (10 grams)

Milk

Preparation

For greater results use a coffee machine to brew your espresso. But if you don’t have one at your home, make the coffee with your Moka Pot or French Press.

If you’re using a coffee machine after you put coffee into your coffee machine handle then add brown sugar over it. It will create a unique, creamy, and smooth texture for your coffee.

When your velvety coffee is ready pour steamed milk into a cup (1:1 ratio). Voila! You make your first Cortadito Coffee.

What About Other Coffee Brewing Methods?

Note that the process remains the same for using a Moka Pot or French Press. Mix sugar with espresso and in the end, add milk to your cup.

Whether you’re using Coffee Machine, Moka Pot, or French press, please stick to the ratio of 1:1. With this in mind we wish you good luck preparing your Cuban-styled coffee.
