Old Fashioned Cocktail

Old-Fashioned-Cocktail

This beauty, Old Fashioned Cocktail has been around for more than 200 years! Created in the 19th century in the USA. Old Fashioned became even more popular in the 2000s as Don Draper’s favorite drink. He was the main actor in the very popular TV Show “Mad Men”.

Well, the original recipe was made with gin instead of whiskey.

After Prohibition, a fruited version was popular with cherry and orange slices muddled with sugar. Fruits were added to mask the taste of mediocre spirits. But indeed, we advocate the classic no-fruit version.

It’s all about simplicity with a dash of elegance and finesse. Nowadays, Old Fashioned Cocktail is the bar standard.

There are many variations, you can use simple syrup or sugar cube, bourbon whiskey, or rye whiskey.

You can save some time using simple syrup, but the taste isn’t the same.

What Does an Old Fashioned Cocktail Taste Like?

As you carefully sip your drink, its taste will evolve. The first flavor you’ll notice is the orange, straight after you’ll feel slightly diluted sweetened whiskey.

This mixture taste a little sweet and a little bitter, well-balanced, the true definition of a cocktail. Built-in a glass and not-so-easy-to-make mixture is definitely a true pleasure for your palate.

Why Is Old Fashioned So Good?

In essence, this concoction has perfectly paired ingredients. Orange zest goes very well with whiskey along with some sugar and bitters. If you are a huge whiskey lover you’ll agree with us. We can say that this great-grandfather of all cocktails is so good that the person who order one was associated with an aristocratic and more mature drinker. So, if you’re a traditionalist you’ll love the simplicity of this drink.
